oxygen concentrators have internal & external filters that need regular maintenance. Usually the external ones can be washed out, dried & returned to the unit. The internal ones should be changed by someone knowledgeable. If the internal filters are not regularly changed, the unit will overheat, not make the correct percentage of oxygen & or shut down. There are good you tube videos out there to guide you. Buying a used o2 concentrator can be bad gamble unless you have the meter to verify it makes the correct percentage of oxygen. So when Dr. said they can last 40,000 hours, that is with regular maintenance. Oh, & by the way, Medical grade oxygen from a tank is always better than most concentrators. It will cost more in the long run & is a pain to keep getting refills.
